Welcome to Library Notes. Here you’ll get a regular dose of juicy, delicious bits of history on everything library-related (as long as it’s in the public domain).

All of the material posted here is retrieved from UW-Madison’s School of Library and Information Studies Laboratory Library. The library is one-of-a-kind, and I’m very excited to be sharing some of the collection with you all. Most of the materials in the Library are from the U.S. and were published in the late 19th and 20th centuries, but there is some good international stuff, too.

I’m Melissa Adler, and I’m a Ph.D. student in SLIS and work as a cataloger in the library. The best part of my job is cataloging all of the really old material. I’ll post the most interesting and readable things here.

    Hi Melissa,
Nice blog. I wonder if you would be willing to list the Wisconsin Library Heritage Center in your Blogroll. The URL is http://heritage.wisconsinlibraries.org/. Also, please consider adding The Library History Buff website to your “library history sites”. The URL is http://www.libraryhistorybuff.org/.
    Thanks.
    Larry
